Are you looking for an opportunity to help rebuild community resiliency and address the societal consequences of the pandemic?<\/p>

Pacific Public Health Foundation<\/a> (PPHF) is a long-standing public health charity that has undergone significant changes and growth, including a recent rebrand and launch of a new name. Over the last few years, it became increasingly clear that we need strong public health programs, research, services, leadership, and advocacy for community health and societal well-being, and even more clear that public health investment is a prerequisite for positive health. We help attract the necessary public health investment required for building and sustaining healthy and resilient communities. We are making a positive impact on public health in BC, and our Board of Directors is committed to advancing our purpose.<\/p>

The Board\u2019s Role<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

The Board is responsible for providing financial, legal, and risk oversight and working with the CEO on strategic direction, priority-setting, and high-level vision for the organization. Currently, the Board is made up of seven directors, with two Officer roles: Chair and Secretary-Treasurer.<\/p>

Director terms consist of three years, renewable once. In addition to the AGM, the Board of Directors meets four times a year, with ad hoc meetings as needed. Meetings are held in Vancouver or by Zoom, Monday-Fridays. It is expected that those interested will devote the time to being an engaged Director.<\/p>

The Board currently has two sub-committees: the Finance and Audit Committee and the Governance and Nominations Committee. Participation in a sub-committee is an expectation of an engaged Director.<\/p>

The Organization<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Pacific Public Health Foundation (PPHF) is an independent, non-governmental organization; the only charity in BC actively fundraising for public health initiatives, with and in support of our partners throughout the province. We are a leader in public health philanthropy; engaging and investing in innovative, collaborative, equity-driven and evidence-based initiatives that have an immediate impact on the health of people in BC.<\/p>

By convening, collaborating, and leveraging relationships with partners, PPHF supports and implements programs and projects grounded in the most pressing public health priorities, to drive innovative research, practice, and policy solutions that advance population health outcomes.<\/p>

PPHF works with partners across all areas of public health, from the provincial to local level, including the BC Centre for Disease Control, regional health authorities, and communities, to improve population health and make a difference in communities where, how, and when they need it the most. A unique, collaborative, and nimble role allows PPHF to bring together philanthropy, funding, partnerships, engagement, and advocacy to advance a healthier, safer, and more equitable future for all.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\t

Board Director Opportunity<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

We are seeking Directors with the following skills and interests:<\/p>

    \n\tA commitment to supporting programs and projects that benefit the health of British Columbians, by building an effective and responsive public health system and fostering community resiliency.<\/li>\n\n\tA commitment to health equity; Indigenous Rights, and Truth and Reconciliation; and actions on the determinants of health.<\/li>\n\n\tDemonstrated experience as a Board Director or in a relevant position with a registered charity or related experience.<\/li>\n\n\tKnowledge of non-profit legislation and practices and compliance requirements.<\/li>\n\n\tUnderstanding of Board governance.<\/li>\n\n\tExperience leading or working on committees and a general understanding of public health and the public health sector.<\/li>\n\n\tExperience in one or more of the following areas: fund development; business, and community development.<\/li>\n\n\tStrong community connections and a willingness to connect our organization to those who may help support it.<\/li>\n\n\tA passion for engaging people and improving population health, while advancing equity and the health and well-being of our communities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>

    The Director duties are to provide:<\/p>

      \n\tGovernance and oversight of the organization, including:
      \u2022 Financial oversight, approval of the annual operating budget, and approval of the audited financial statements.<\/span>
      \u2022 Policy oversight for board-governed policies.<\/li>\n\n\tDirection- and priority-setting for the development of the strategic plan.<\/li>\n\n\tLeadership for the CEO as they implement the strategic plan.<\/li>\n\n\tMonitoring of the organization\u2019s progress towards achieving established goals.<\/li>\n\n\tOversight and evaluation of the CEO.<\/li>\n\n\tWillingness to act as an ambassador and promote the organization\u2019s purpose, vision, brand, and fundraising activities through networking and connections.<\/li>\n<\/ol>
