SPEAK was an annual survey that asks British Columbia residents to share their experiences with the COVID-19 pandemic. These population-level surveys provided valuable insight into the experiences of British Columbian adults early on in the pandemic (SPEAK 1), and then a year later (SPEAK 2).<\/p>\n<p>At local, regional, and provincial levels, the surveys measured the <span style=\"color: #0c94c5;\"><a style=\"color: #0c94c5;\" href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.17269\/s41997-022-00708-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">populations&#8217; perceptions of risk, the acceptability of the public health response and recovery measures, and the broader impacts of the pandemic<\/a><\/span>. Over 580,000 British Columbians completed at least one of the two surveys. These timely data were critical to informing public health response to the pandemic in our province, and we\u2019re thrilled to share that <span style=\"color: #0c94c5;\"><a style=\"color: #0c94c5;\" href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.17269\/s41997-022-00708-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the research methods have been published<\/a> <\/span>in the Canadian Journal of Public Health.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bccdcfoundation.org\/introducing-bc-covid-19-speak-survey-dashboard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pacificpublichealth.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/BCCDCF_COVID-survey-blog-banner-2-1-1024x427.jpg\" alt=\"1 in 10 adults in BC completed the SPEAK 1 survey\" class=\"wp-image-6590\" style=\"width:512px;height:214px\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">1 in 10 adults in BC completed the SPEAK 1 survey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bccdcfoundation.org\/bc-covid-19-speak-2-survey-and-interactive-dashboard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pacificpublichealth.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/SPEAK-2-participants-for-publication-blog-post-Jan-2023-1-1024x427.png\" alt=\"1 in 25 British Columbians adults completed the SPEAK 2 survey\" class=\"wp-image-6591\" style=\"width:512px;height:214px\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">1 in 25 British Columbians adults completed the SPEAK 2 survey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>We are committed to funding projects supported by evidence, and rooted in <span style=\"color: #0c94c5;\">health equity<\/span>. The <span style=\"color: #0c94c5;\"><a style=\"color: #0c94c5;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.euro.who.int\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0010\/74737\/E89383.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social Determinants of Health Model<\/a><\/span> was used to inform SPEAK survey questions, allowing for valuable insight into the health equity needs of our population. Some of the results of the two SPEAK surveys showed that <span style=\"color: #0c94c5;\"><a style=\"color: #0c94c5;\" href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.17269\/s41997-022-00708-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">families with children, young adults, and people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds have been most impacted by the pandemic<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the support of generous donors and partners, we have played a critical role in supporting BC\u2019s COVID-19 public health response.
